What do you think of Christian tattoo shops? Would you go to one? (Just assume that the tattoo artist is very good at tattooing.) If you knew that the tattooists in this shop would not do certain tattoos (like nudes, etc.) would that sway your decision one way or another to going there or would it not matter? Do you think that a shop like this would have a chance at being successful or do you think they are destined for failure just because they are limiting themselves? Thanks for the opinions! |

I saw the topic for this post and I thought that it was very interesting, considering that I own a "Christian" tattoo shop. Now I am not sure whether to call it a Christian one, or just that all of my clients and even potential ones know that I consider myself a Christian. Now the issue of not doing certain tattoos does come up with what I believe. But, I will do ANYTHING except for anything OPENLY satanic. Like 666, stuff, I won't tattoo and most of my clients that would want something like that respect my beliefs. What is nice about where I live is that the artists are very close, and I can send them to another artist who is comfortable with stuff like that. and it has paid off in referrals my way, with pieces I enjoy to do. I will do any dark images, its just when it is in DIRECT and I mean DIRECT conflict with my beliefs. For myself I think that God would rather live by example, and not turn someone away because they like dark imagery, or morbid art work. And just showing that a Christian is willing to tattoo that kind of art gives alot of my customers a different point of view on what Christianity is. And that it is a much more open religion than it has been made out to be. Jesus went into alot of places, and situations that were in his day very "sinful," (And even being in some of those places/ situations would have been considered "sin") but in being open minded, through God, Christianity has become one of the largest religions to date. But, I think the major problem with Christianity and tattooing is that peoples personal beliefs got mixed in, and so they found versus in the bible (that are easily up for interpretation) to back up what they were uncomfortable with. And unfortunately there are more people who are uncomfortable with things like tattooing, so there has been years and years of backing the "ban" of things like tattoos/ piercings. And my Dad is actually a pastor up here, and I struggled with my beliefs and what I had passion for, for quite a while before starting to tattoo. And strangely enough my Dad is one of my strongest supporters. He helped me (paid) to get my first equipment, and ordering a couple machines from Pulse. and through just being a normal guy and not turning away images that I am not comfortable with, alot of my customers regularly come to church with me. I know that sounds weird but, times are changing, and a guy with a morbid zombie on his arm can come into certain Christian churches and not be "pushed" back out the front door by being starred down. Anyways, Im not sure where I am going with this, but I just wanted to put in my two cents. |

im a co owner of a christian tattoo shop in memphis tennessee called kings ink we are about 1 mile from graceland (elvis s house)and we are very happy with are life styleis not of the typical tattoo lifestyle.we are not buttholes to the people that come in like a lot of the shops that are around here,we do nudes but dont do anything that degrades God,we do skulls, all kinds of piercings.im sure thats there is a lot of things that any tatto artist doesnt like to do.i had acustomer come in the other night and wanted some kind of symbol that meant in his religion that he himself is a god and i thought that wasnt something that i didnt feel comfortable doing his tattoo his symbol because im a christian.just because we are christians mean we can do things like everyone else ,but we choose to do what we feel is right ...thanks and God bless

good point there jamie and these folks that owned the shop seemed to be real nice down to earth folks and im sorry to see them go.and i see your points clearly i have real issues with anything gang related but i will tattoo them unless there just real jerks or premadonna and think there shit dont stink if thats the case i just blow them out the door.i feel that they were being a wee bit too critical on what they wanted or would do as far as a tattoo.respect there morals but in this area i feel ya need to be open and place some of your feelings aside. for let you not judge me but let my creator be the judge. peace don |

For a while, I actually refused to tattoo anything overtly Christian. Then I decided, I tattoo other mythological characters, why not Jesus. |

Dan Henk, Damn.Crazy work u got goin on.
I didnt even know these places existed till now.Is there even a need for such shops? If a artist is religeous then he should stick to his morals and refuse to do things that go against them. But whole shops.Wow.
News to me.

I actually just recently relocated from Michigan to Dallas, Texas and I'm trying to find a Christian Tattoo Artist or shop here in the Dallas area. Personally I feel more comfortable knowing the artist is a Chrisitan because they understannd the meaning behind the tattoo more. Does anyone have any idea where I can search for a Christian artist or shop in the Dallas, Texas area? I would love to know. My e-mail address is anthony.mason2008@yahoo.com.
Thanks!!! |

HI. I have been looking for a Christian tattoo parlor / body piercing shop. I have been unable to find one so I have not gotten any done. I wish to get a piercing on my ear that can only be done at a piercing place but I refuse to compromise my beliefs and give money to a place that will tattoo or pierce ANYTHING or ANYWHERE. So, yes it would make a huge difference in the decision I would make about going to a shop.
(If anyone knows of any near Rochester, NY please let me know! thanks!)

I would most definitely go to one and am looking for one here in San Antonio. I am A Jesus loving tattooed grandmother of three and would get more if I could find a place and artist with the skills required for what I want done. I enjoy the living art of tattoos and they tell the story of the wearer. Its really very beautiful. |

I am the owner/operator of Alpha & Omega's Tattoo & Body Piercing. It's a Christian shop in Oshkosh , Wi. I tattoo anything except for satanic, pagan, and nazi stuff.... oh! and barb wire and taz just because those are lame. Actually some of the demonic looking figures , macabre, and skull images are some of the most fun tattoos to do in my opinion. I have no problem with doing nudes either...it's art. And NO! I don't preach to people or try to shove my beliefs down peoples throats. However if someone would like to discuss it or have a healthy debate on the subject, I'm all for it. We even have stacks of free Bibles for the taking. I have not updated it for a while but you can go to my myspace page and check out some of my work in the slideshows. http://www.myspace.com/alpha_and_omegas God Bless! |

I like the idea of Christian tattoo shops. An other form of getting the Word out. It shows how judgmental people can be, when you have a Tat some people just assume your a bad seed. We the people need to get past how people look and dress...It's all about your Faith in Jesus Christ! |

WHAT...i'm actually looking for on in HOUSTON!!!! I think its a great idea and would bring in a ton of business. Sometimes I watch Miami Ink and I've seen episodes were satanists would come in ask to get something done, and then a christian would come in a get something truly close to them that help them find there way o God. So i think and environment were Christians can go and get an AWESOME TAT is a BRILLIANT IDEA!!!! |
