A Question of Respect

I was happy to come across this site and read some of your posts. I have been trying to decide on my next tattoo, I know they don't all need to have deep seeded meaning but if its on my body then its my decision. Ive come across some beautiful style tattoos while I was on the popular polynesian website http://www.tahititatou.com/index.html so I started looking into it more and learning more and it brought me to this website. I came across a thread where people were being told not to get this style tattoo bc of its heritage and while that is highly credible and I would never get a tattoo that say a high chief would wear....i was wondering what people in the tattoo community thought. Tattoos are spreading across the world there are different styles and meaning everywhere you go, I think if someone just gets a certain tattoo bc it looks cool, it may work for them but they would be lacking a certain....i dunno....for example I play capoeira and Ive heard of people getting capoeiraesque tattoos who have no idea what capoeira is and yea it bothers me alittle. Basically I would not want to get a tattoo or style of tattoo that would disrespect certain peoples or anger them, is this the general feeling?
