Adding to an existing tattoo

Question for the artists... Do artists typically like to add details to existing tattoos not done by them? Basically, I have a tattoo on my left arm that I want to turn into a sleeve, but am probably not going to go back to the original artist. Would I be putting another artist off by asking him/her to add to one not done by them? I don't want to offend anyone and just wandered what the standard protocal was. Thank you for your help.

yeah i'm in the same boat. I let an apprentice do a piece thats from my knee cap to mid shin and it looks like a gorilla wiped his ass with half my shin. The middle of the tattoo (a sacred heart) is fine but the outside of the piece looks like poop. same question: Would other artists generally have a problem fixing a shitty tattoo? Side note: i'm not at all pissed at the apprentice for fucking up my leg because she was in a legit shop and had already done a few pieces on other people however i do not want to go back to her because she is too new to this business to be elaborating/ covering/ fixing a fuck up.
