Adding to an existing tattoo

2 messages · last activity 1/10/2009

This was asked in the past but didn't receive an answer (or can't find it). At any rate.... I have a tattoo done by an artist that I want to add to. The problem is, I want another artist to do the NEW work. I was hoping to get some feedback with situations like this. Is it in poor taste to request work done on an existing tattoo by someone else? My problem is that I simply like the style of another artist versus the one that did the original. I did not know if artists like to add to tattoos done by someone else. I don't want to offend anyone. Thank you.
There's nothing wrong with wanting to collect tattoos from a number of artists and getting what YOU want tattooed. Sometimes it can be a bit touchy when it comes to reworking a tattoo someone else started, but when it comes down to it, it's your body and getting what you want is more important than hurting someone's feelings. It would be good to bring it up to the artist and make sure they are comfortable with the situation, but otherwise I'd say do what makes you feel good about the art your collecting.
