Just out of curiosity but who is consider the best overall tattoo artist these days?
Thats pretty impossible to say. Because usually the best of the best are AMAZING in ONE particular style, and if overall means that who can rock the most styles and still be most original. I have NO IDEA.
Wow you know a lot about tattoos that’s awesome! So then in your opinion who are some of the best of the best in different styles Pyrrhus? (besides portrait heard from you earlier thanks for that it was a great list)
I would probably pick Nikko as an overall all terrain color artist. Bob Tyrrel takes all the awards when it comes to black and white. But I don't thing that there is a such thing as "a best artist" There are a bunch of really good artist at certain styles.
I am flattered, but I really dont know that much :) For personal prefrence, it would propably be somethign like this NEW-SCHOOL Jesse Smith www.kaoticenzymes.com Electrick Pick www.electricpick.com Gunnar www.godsandmonstersart.com Cory Kruger www.krugertattoos.com NEO-TRADITIONAL/AMERICANA etc Rudy Fritsch www.originalclassictattoo.com Jeff Zuck www.jeffzuck.com Grez http://kingsavenuetattoo.com Aaron Coleman www.immaculatetattoo.com Lu www.myspace.com/lus_lips JAPANESE/NEO-TRADITIONALISM etc Shige www.yellowblaze.net David Sena http://senaspace.com Grime www.grimemonster.com Dana Helmuth www.solidstatetattoo.com SURREALISM/PAINTERLY/ART STYLES etc Tomas Tomas www.siddhamrastu.co.uk Steve Moore www.getmooretattoos.com Heather McLean http://www.hbomb.ca Adrian Lee www.newskooltattoo.com Nick Baxter www.nickbaxter.com Cant...continue... I left out the ones that were in realism list. And propably the list will look different in 2 weeks ;)
Wow another great list Pyrrhus do you have any idea who started some of these different styles you had mentioned?
Thats little harder. Heres some info on the subjects www.offthemaptattoo.com/the-perfect-tattoo-design.html www.keibunsha.com/hst_jt.html www.dreadloki.com/pivot/pivot/entry.php?uid=standard-800&action=show New-School gets it drive from comic books, kustom kulture, graffiti and stuff. So called Lowbrow art form, and I have heard that Dave Waugh would have been one of the first one to do New-School style, or what was called New-School. Could be totally wrong. But according to Tony Olivas I would be partly right "Like Little Vinnie, Dave Waugh - they originated that new school style, y'know ... that traditional stuff with a twist." www.prickmag.net/tonyolivasinterview.html And its really hard to say for example who started to do surrealistic tattoos first. Because you would have to define what is surrealism and how is it seen in tattoos.
I would have to go with Anil Gupta if we are talking all around badass. Everything from his Miniatures, to colorwork, to greyscale is nothing short of amazing. No weak links. Consistently flawless.
it's all opinion, it' s impossible to measure.
