Biomass Plants

5 messages · last activity 2/2/2007

Dear friends: I beg you to please give this your immediate attention. There is a Massachusetts law change being finalized right now that will mean much more emissions of lead, mercury, and 85 other hazardous air pollutants in our state. This is a very urgent matter and I ask that you please DO TWO THINGS WITHIN THE NEXT 24 HOURS or as soon as you possibly can: 1) If you agree with the message below, please send an email to the group list of Senators and Representatives below AND 2) Forward this email to everybody in your email list ( you could also post this email on online forums of newspapers etc.). These regulations could fly through and become law without the legislature even having a public hearing. If you will just take the time to send an email and forward this to others, it can make a BIG difference in how this turns out. Please do this -- or don't come running to me when it becomes law! ;- ) PLEASE cut and paste this list to email these chairpersons of the legislative committees reviewing this proposal, copying me also if you want: [email removed], [email removed], [email removed], [email removed], [email removed] Cut and paste the following message or write your own: Dear Senators Wilkerson and Morrissey, and Representatives Dempsey and Cabral: I strongly oppose the adoption of changes to the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) that would give my clean energy money ( REC credits) for the burning of construction and demolition debris (C&D) in power plants. C&D wood is contaminated with lead paint, creosote, solvents, glues, particle board, (the pressure-treatment chemical) copper chromium arsenate, pesticides, mercury-based fungicides in paint, and other toxins. The EPA has determined that combustion of C&D wood generates 87 separate hazardous air toxins, and these toxins would be spread far and wide throughout the air we breathe and would settle on our homesteads, farmlands, businesses, and waterways. These REC moneys that came out of MY electric bill must NOT be given to subsidize C&D combustion as clean energy! I ask that you recommend against the adoption of the proposed regulations and do everything in your power to defeat these changes. I ask you to be sure to hold a public hearing on this matter and request that you send me notice of it at my email address. I look forward to hearing from you on this matter. Sincerely, ( you! ) FILL IN Your Name Street address city, Massachusetts phone *******THE TIMELINE ON THIS IS VERY SHORT: Senator Morrissey has asked for initial comments to come in by Friday, Jan 6, and final comments are due Jan 10. PLEASE TRY TO SEND THIS QUICK EMAIL NOW OR WITHIN 24 HOURS. IT WILL JUST TAKE YOU A MINUTE! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! Thanks for putting this up, i've been looking for somthing to do about this besides bumper stickers.
In the last year I've gotten involved with this, they want to build a biomass plant 1000 feet from my front door.I'm learning that if enough people pull together and don't give up,we can make a difference. If you just lay there, the politicians will pass what ever they want so long as it's not near their house.
