Unfortunately, the only thing that really covers black is more black. A lot of artists will put colors over the top of dark tattoos and it'll work for the most part, but from my experience, the black will usually raise its ugly ass back up eventually. Darker colors will do well; blues, purples, whatnot. But dont get your hopes up about putting something new and bright in the middle
Hope this helps, Take care

No.
Google laser removal or a fading cream if your desperate
what can make a difference is if you tattoo over black with white ink, i have seen it a few times, its not back to the skin colour of course but at least you can get some form and pattern back to an otherwise boring black sploge.
take a look at some examples in the website of the famous tattoo artist called Xed: www.xedtattoo.com
he coverd the most tattooed man in the world with black ink, then tattooed over again in white ink of Indian Om's and Tibetan Mantras.
Tashi... for Tibetan script tattoo designs:

I have a solid black tattoo on my back. can i get it covered up with something else?
I would just have it removed...or lightened up allot. it will only look good for a lil while then colors will fade back to black and it will need constant touch up to maintain anything but the black/dark color if your tattoo shop is telling you different its because they know you will keep coming back for touch ups and i doubt they will be free....so in the long run it will be cheaper to just have it removed or lightened allot to achieve what you want. do what you like this is just my advice hopefully other pros will chime in on this one....good luck
