cover up

Hi i have a tattoo on my right arm, the tattoo.is like a ivy plant in black im just wondering can you go over black in different colour i.e green, red, orange,.because im want it covered up,im thinking of have like torn skin and making it look like my arm is a machine under the skin,

i had a cover up the first tat was done in black so the new one had to be in black and it looks great now. So good luck to you..
