I know almost every tattoo shops required deposit for appoinment and not refundable. my question is... i have a friend that set up an appointment with an artist, he put $200 deposit down August 07, but the appointment is not till March 08, and he decided to move out of the state. instead of reschedule the appointment, he want to cancel it and should he getting his deposit back? even though he canceled it 5 months prior to the appointment date. However i understand if you make appointment and cancel 3-4 days before the tattoo date.
thanks

It's really up to you man.
If I can still book that date with another client, I would give it back to the dude. However, that sounds to me like the most common excuse to get the money back.
Deposits are contracts. You secure a spot for the client, they are buying your availability in advance knowing that not being able to make it will result in a deposit loss. They break the contract they loose the loot with no further consequences.
Your call bro.
If your artist say non refundable deposit.......that is just what it means..........if your artist is good enough to book that far in advance.......why would "YOUR FRIEND" (wink wink) not come back into state to get his work...........ask your artist if he might compromise and ask for half.........but don't get your hopes up.
