I realize that it's taboo to discuss any technical aspects of the craft of tattooing in an open forum, but my question relates more to sterilization, so I am posting it here.
After twelve years of tattooing, I am fed-up with cleaning tubes. I have yet to meet an apprentice (and very few artists, for that matter) who clean tubes to my standards and I am sick of doing it myself. However, I despise disposable tubes as they make my brass machines feel like 10 pound boulders and the grips are useless for maintaing a firm hold on the the set-up.
So... here's my idea: I have recently been seeing disposable tips - just the tip - for sale and I have considered trying them out. That way I can have a SS shank and grip and then the part that gets the most nasty can be discarded after a tattoo and the SS parts easlily utrasonic-ed and autoclaved. No more pipe-cleaners, etc. There are other advantages, as all artits know, but we needn't discuss that here on this message board.
Anyway, has anyone tried these things yet? Everyone I know has tried the disposable tubes and either loved them or absolutley hated them, but no-one seems to have tried the tips. It's a comprimise, obviously, but one that makes sense to me. If anyone has any experience with the disposable tips, I'd love to hear about some thoughts.
If anyone would like to email directly and keep their answers off the board, that would be a good idea. TIA.
