foot tattoos

I want to get my first tattoo soon. I want to get it on my foot but i run track and my coach would kill me if I was out for more than a few days. Does it take a long time to heal enough to wear tennis shoes and be able to run? Would you suggest getting the tattoo in a different spot? If so, where?
If you HAVE to be in shoes within 2 weeks do not get one on the foot! There is NO WAY you will be running in that time period also! I got mine 10 days ago and the swelling has gone down but it is still healing and throbs when you get up in the morning and the blood hits it. Also still uncomfortable to walk on and I have been only wearing flip flops. The foot is one of the hardest spots to heal for a tattoo. You definately want to keep it elevated for the first two days after getting it done. You dont want to put socks and shoes on it within the first 2 weeks cus it will promote sweat and can infect your tattoo...its like an open wound. Hope this helped :) I got one on the back of my neck a few months back that looks awesome and healing was not bad at all! (This is my 7th tattoo)
