Fresh Tattoo, normal?

I just got my first tattoo a few days ago. I followed the tattooists instructions after I left. Today is the third day, but on the second day I went to the beach and I got it wet in the water. I didn't know you weren't supposed to soak it at all, especially salt water. I rinsed it with fresh water after we left the beach, and I put anti-bacterial ointment on it. It seems fine, but it's been red most of the time. When I wake up, in the morning it's fine and not red. I have had a little pain, that is off and on, and the tattoo is raised quite a bit. Is this normal? Is there anything I should do to help it heal?

shame on you swimming that soon after a tattoo and in the ocean of all places! follow your after care instructions keep a eye on it if it gets worse producing any color of drainage red steeks from tattoo area and such might want to get to doc.ya definetly broke one of my aftercare rules. absoluetly no swimming in any oceans lakes rivers streams swimmg pools or hot tubs.PERIOD! if any touch up is needed you should pay for it it is due to your neglect not the artist here.keep clean and follow aftercare procedures
