Getting A Sleeve or NOT???

8 messages · last activity 8/12/2007

I need some advice from all of you!!! I'm been wanting to get a sleeve tattoo. You see, I'm asian, and most asian people look at me, right away they think I'm a bad person (criminal). Which I don't give a fuck. Thank god, I'm in America. For those of you that have sleeves tattoos, what are the changes you experience with people around you? how do strangers around you act? what about the cops, do they think anything of you? Like profiling? I'm sure most of your answers gonna be like mine. Fuck What anyone thinks... Right??? Give me some advice, 'cause I kinda don't and do wants to get it.
Do you have any other tattoos? Maybe its a good thing to start with a piece on your upper arm, leg etc. This way you get the feel of it, and can sometimes wear clothes that will show the tattoo. Then it can be tien together into a sleeve later on, if you like.
Yes, sorry i didn't mention, I already have a dragon on my upper arm. i pretty much have half the sleeves done, i can wear a short sleeve tshirt, and show little bit, but now, can't make up my mind if i want the whole sleeve or not
Its all about commitment Hef...15 years ago if you had asked me this question I probably would have said "hell no! Don't get it!" because you expressed some doubt. Its a whole different world today man...tattoos no longer have the onus they once did and are accepted much more freely. You have to decide what is right for you. What kind of work do you do?...If you work in a professional capacity...in a conservative company etc etc, you may want to think a bit more about being sleeved. But in this day and age where priests have full body suits and judges are sleeved and shirted it is much more acceptable. Sure there is always gonna be the odd asshole who hates anyone thats even a little bit different than they are but hey, unless they sign yer paychecks fuck em hey?
Honestly, I think everyone is different about the whole opinion of the piercing. Like, you'll always find the cops who will think it's cool and come up and show you yours, but then again, there will always be the people who will automatically stereotype you. So just keep it in mind no matter what you do, someone will be a bitch about it and someone will respect you for it.
Bonnero, PIERCING? Read the damn post again, talkin about a TATTOO!!!
i often get disapproving looks from random people when im out and about. but i think thats to be expected. people with sleeves or a good amount of work done are often labeled as criminals or hullagans or whatever. at least in my experience. its a sleeve..you have to know its going to have some shock value. depending on the job alot of people wont hire you if you have ink so consider that as well.
Depends on what and how good the sleeves are. I have some pretty colorful sleeves, and, well, before I owned a studio and was a simple freelance programmer, I swear I landed some jobs cause my tattoos set me apart (well, Im sure my work had something to do with it too, but you get the idea). I had hand tattoos and worked contracts for disney and honda...
