good portfolio

i want to get started the right way. i have plenty of good drawings and paintings narrowed down (not all really tattoo related) but are there any specific things, subjects, mediums that i should put in my portfolio to catch some attention?

I've talked with a number of professional artists about getting an apprenticeship as well. And i've asked them the same questions. My advice is just the same as their's. Present your art in a well kept portfolio case ( this will show you value your work ) , the first one they see when they open it should be your absolute best ( something to make them want to see more ) then broadly categorize it from there, if you're great at black and grey works, keep those in the front, then go to the color section, show them a broad broad range of subject matter, from abstract, maybe some tribal ( maybe lol ) realism, animals, faces, EVERYTHING, show them you know how to draw, and then maybe if you've got some in the works type pieces throw them in the back somewhere, also put in some basic flash style set up pages. All this alone could take you a year or years depending on your speed. And present it well. Most of all humble yourself but show drive and direction. Best of luck to ya.
