Healing a Foot Tattoo

ecently had tattoo work done on my foot. It comprises of the whole top and outer side of my foot. This is my first real tattoo and unknowingly I put antibiotic ointment on it for 2 days and kept it covered (as instructed--the bandage part not the ointment part) I was told to leave it covered for at least 3 days and then given a piece of paper with further instructions. So I left it on overnight (now I find that was not the thing to do) and cleaned it the next day and put antibiotic ointment on it. cleaned it again before bed and again with the oinment. I continued this over the next 24 hours. When I flew home, I bought moisturzing lotion (unscented) and dial soap. I am now airing it out and applying lotion anytime it feels dry. I read on the internet that antibiotic ointment it the WORST thing to use. My tattoo hasnt faded through the oinment use and is now starting to heal (its itchy and the swelling has gone down). Will my tattoo end up a faded mess??
