How long do tattoos tend to take?

Is there any basic idea of duration? So many square inches, per hour maybe? I know people who have large projects go for multiple sittings. When is the second sitting, can it be the next day or would the first wave have to completely heal?

its all relative my tattoo is about 10cmX5cm and took under half an hour, also, my friend has a rather large tattoo on her lower back and that took 45mins, which seems quick! but it depends on the size of the tattoo and the artist.
