Hyper Realism

What is Hyper Realism? Is it use of saturated colors on realistic tattoo?

By all definitions hyper-realism is best defined as realism in art characterized by depiction of real life in an unusual or striking manner. This phrase/term is closley asssociated with the term "photorealism" meaning basically "appearing as real as a photograph. Hope this helped.

Well no actually hyperrealism AKA photrealism can also be achieved with no "color" at all ie. Paul Booth, Jack Rudy etc...the "hyper" prefix, when it comes down to it, just means "very" as in VERY realistic. You get the idea!!

Gotcha!... I'm just so amaze with the style, Joshua Carlton just released a dvd. Anybody seen it? Worth buying? I'm just an apprentice & searching my own style. I used to paint in oil & acrylic, "renaissance painting".

I havnt seen the DVD yet, but if its anything like his book its well worth it. Joshua does regular guest spots here and did his seminar on advanced tattooing here at Off the Map last time. Make sure you go to the Boston Tattoo Convention too, some real great artists attend every year. Can we see a link to some of your artwork?

You've seen my work gabe (not tattoo related drawings), www.win-design.net. This is my 2nd month apprenticing, already did 2 tattoos on friends with my mentor watching my back, went very well. Still a looooooot to learn, but loving it though.

For those who know..... is there anyone in Ontario (or NY, maybe) that's particularly good at this style?
