Ink not holding

Why wouldn't my skin hold the ink? I was getting a tattoo yesterday (3 bands on my left forearm) and for some reason when he went to color it in my skin would not hold the ink. This is not my first tattoo and I have a lot of coloring on my other arm (8-hour piece) and I have never had this problem. What could cause that to happen or what could I do to prevent it from happening in my next session?
