Having worked in tattoo shops over the years, I am no stranger to tattooing or the healing that is involved. Exactly one week ago I received a fairly large piece of work, extending from my Achilles Tendon to mid calf. The work is of a Guy Atchison style and is packed full of color. I wound up initially having an allergic reaction to the lotion I was using and discontinued the use, it caused me to have little red bumps all over my leg. It has been only a couple of days since switching products however, my ankle is still swollen and the tattoo is very sensitive to touch. It appears that it is scabbing normally and there does not appear to be any pus or secretions coming from the area....
My question is - would it be normal to have swelling one week after the tattoo? And is it common to have such tenderness? The tattoos I have had in the past have all been on my upper body and I have not experienced such difficulty healing in the past. I do know I have poor circulation and I am constantly on my feet due to work which contributes some, however it has been one week to the day and I am beginning to become a bit more concerned. Please advise.
