Is it wrong?

Is it wrong to think of a memorial tattoo before the person died? Let me explain. I love my grandfather very much. He is the most important person in my life. I know when he dies it will tear me up. I have always thought that when that time comes I would get a tattoo to remember him by. I never thought much about the design until recently when he almost died. Then while just browsing various pictures on the internet I came across a design that I loved. With some changes I would really like to get this tattoo, but I think it would be could as a memorial tattoo. I am not planning on getting it until he dies, but I feel weird that I already have a design picked out for when that day comes. Am I mean?
Nothing wrong with having a plan, plus from now until he's ready to move on you'll have time to think about it.Mabey talk to him and get some of his history, ask him how he'd like to be memoralized. Gods Bless
What does he think of tattoos? Cause if he doesn't hate them, any maybe even if he does, I bet that you could probably get the tattoo before he dies and it would mean a lot to him, not just to you. This way, he would know how much he means to you and you would be able to share your love for him in a very meaningful way that words could never do. Art is a way to connect people...this tattoo could be a way to show him your appreciation. Might I also suggest that if you go with this idea, when you present your tattoo to him, thank him. Write out what you want to say,in letter form, read it to him and then give it to him. You could even have a picture of your tattoo enclosed in the letter. This way, you both have a way to physically see the connection you have. As an art therapist who has worked in hospice, what I see all the time are people who regret what they don't do and don't say to their loved ones. You're not being mean by telling someone close to you that you love them. He might not have the words to thank you, but he'll have the memory of your conversation (and hopefully letter/pic of tattoo) for as long as he lives. Good luck and let us know what you decide. Dana
Also, I'd say go to a custom artist that you love. Like Hotspark said, talk to your grandfather about things that are special to him and have your artist put those things in a special one of a kind design.
Even better would be to design the tattoo with your grandfather and then have him go with you to get it. It'll be something that will let your grandfather really know how much you care about him and not only will you always remember your grandfather everytime you look at the tattoo you'll remember that time you had getting the tattoo.
Wow! Thanks for the replys. I feel so much better now. I like a lot of the ideas you all had. I'm not sure how he feels about tattoos. He knows I have them and has been the one person in the family not to ridicule me for them. He hasn't really said anything about them. Of course I am the baby grandchild and the only one that lives in the same state so I can do no wrong. I am thinking of adding stuff to the tattoo that will represent him more. I really like the idea of him going with me so we can share the experience. Thank you so much for your replies!
