Norse question..

Hey, this might be a bit off topic for a tattoo board, but im not sure where else to ask this- Ive been considering getting a norse/viking type of tattoo for a while, becuase I thought being German kind of connected me with that. But the more I look into this stuff, the more "confilicting" things i find, saying how Germans aren't really connected with it, to things saying that Germans are (Having the same mythological gods, using runes, etc). Anyone know anything about this? I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out if they happen to know anything about this.
