Om mani padme hum tattoo question

I am considering getting an om mani padme hum tattoo and i would like to know if it is a good idea. First off i am not buddist or any other type of foreign religion that might use this mantra. Although, i consider myself a very spiritual person and i like the idea of the saying om mani padme hum to purify greed, lust, etc. and i believe having this tattoo i know it sounds stupid but i think it will help me to live a much pureified life. so what i am asking is it a bad/dumb idea to get his type of tattoo if i am not a follower of the religion but i just like the meaning behind it? thanks
