Runic Tattoo

6 messages · last activity 9/14/2006

For my next tat I want a series of Norwegian runic characters. I have picked out which ones I want and I know that I want it on the inside of my left forearm. I also know that I want it in black and shades of gray. The one thing that I am having trouble with is how to bring the different characters together. Whether or not I should have them just in a series or whether I should try and make some type of design out of them. Any ideas?
I have been looking for a rune design over the past week or so. I found several sites that help with creating bindrunes. This is where the characters you want are combined based on their meanings. You can also get perosnla bindrunes made (you initials, family name etc.) Use a google search and typ in Runic tattoos, you should get plenty of helpful sites.
runes are very important to the followers of the old ways a good place to start would be the book of runes you can find it at barnes and noble
I would encourage anyone that would like any ancient Scandinavian runic inscriptions to read this page ( http://www.sunnyway.com/runes/tattoos.html ). It contains very specific information regarding runes as well as the greater symbols of the ancient Germanic culture. I have deep Scandinavian roots myself and plan on getting the Vegvisir (runic compass) as a tattoo in the coming months. Hope it helps.
I would recommend staying away from books written by ralph blum, or other authors who take his invented 'blank rune' - blum did a great job bringing attention from the masses back to the runes, however he just didn't get a lot of his facts straight. remember, verify information you find with other sources...and the sunnyway link above is a good source to start with. if you are willing to pay a small fee of $8.95us for a years worth of access, you will have access to lots of info, as well as design services here: http://www.rune-tattoos.com/
