Starting on my own

3 messages · last activity 1/14/2006

Let me just get to the point…I'm going to learn how to tattoo. I bought my own equipement and I have some friends in the medium, who are amazing artist, that are going to help me out. Due to my current situation, I can't seek out the traditional apprenticeship, so I'm going to do it on my own. Because of todays technology and the use of the internet I've set up an online journal to document my progress. It's ment to be a way for me to communicate with other tattoo artists on everything from the basics as well and more advanced techniques when the time comes. Eventually after I develop the skills neccessary to apply a quality piece art on myself as well as others I'llwork my way into a shop and begin the next step of my 'apprenticeship' and continue to learn from other tattoo artist in a hands-on enviornment. Here's the link to my journal any critizism would be greatly appretiated… http://www.guerrillastyle.com/blog/index.html Thank you…
you sound comitted and sure of yourself. Determination can take you far as well as dedication to the art. How long have you been an artist?
You sound like you have the right mindset and seem determined and I applaud that HOWEVER....There are so many things you just cannot learn on your own.Personally I would be willing to help any aspiring artist in any way possible you included.Just please consider a formal apprenticeship. In lieu of that I highly suggest that you consider purchasing the Guy Aitchison book on tattooing. This book costs $100 but it's worth is immeasurable.I don't know what your 'SITUATION " is but If you are as dedicated as you say you will make time for an apprenticeship and or some very valuable art classes.Don't be another scratcher... this industry has has suffered immeasurably from the wannabes that open little scab shops and do cut rate work.Yeah we make a lot of money fixing up bad tattoos from these so called artists but I'd much rather not see those poor people who got fucked up at a scratchers shop ( or in his basement "studio") just because he didn't heve the balls to do things the right way.Anything I can do to help...answer questions or whatever e mail me...and good luck!!
