Tattoo Artist Rate Of Pay

What is the basic rate of pay for a tattoo artist in a shop....What percentage, Hourly or Piece? How much does an artist make in someone else's shop?

The variables to your question are immense....prices and methods for pricing vary with each shop....a GENERAL idea is (for straight stencil tattooing) is around a hundred bucks an hour again this varies by shop location ,reputation, skill level of the artist and sometimes the mood of the artist the day ya walk in! Of course custom tattooing is generally more expensive because of the skill and experience involved. At my studios we charge by the piece...you know exactly what you are getting and how much it will cost...if it takes longer than we thought you don't pay more period.We want to know we can take our time and do it right without the client having to look at the clock and the artist feeling he/she has to rush to get done in the time paid for...Taz PS...Prices will ALWAYS vary according to the customers attitude!!!!!
