tattoo on scars

This is my first post, so hopefully nobody has posted anything similar lately. I looked around but didn't see anything. Anyways, I was wondering if it's possible to tattoo over scars or if this is a good idea. I have quite a few raised scars on my body and have had them for a number of years. I have been thinking about getting a tattoo close to or over an area of scars that represents strength or courage or forgiveness. It's not vital for me to get the tattoo over the scars, it would just mean more to me. Anyways, I appreciate any responses. Olivia
