I got a back piece started on my back a year ago and lately I have been wondering if I'm going to be happy with the finish product. I'm into traditional japanese tattoo. I have always liked work from popular artist like Chris Garver, Shige, and Filip Leu, etc... so I decided to get a full back piece done on my back. The artist that I choose came from a respectable shop and he himself is a very good artist. I got the whole out line done and a quarter of the scale finished. I looked at the tattoo daily and notice that the dragon is not really traditional looking. The scales are too small and the head of the dragon does not look traditional. I have not come back for more session for almost a year. Partly because of money and I don't know if I should just trust the artist vision of the tattoo and let him finish or get a cover up of a dragon from someone who I know will put a "traditional" japanese dragon on my back. I have already invested a lot of seat time and money into this tattoo. If I love the tattoo then the money and times getting tattoo will not matter to me. I rather be happy and proud of my tattoo. Can you all comment on this and give me some advise? Should I continue with this back piece or find another artist and do a cover up (if that is possible)? Thanks.
