tattoo technique

Is there a technical name for the art, shading, etc between two larger tattoos? Like for a sleeve, some folks start off whit a tattoo, they get another on near the first one, and so on... Soon they want to bring it all together to create a single sleeve. Im looking for the technical name for what its called when one fills in the areas in between larger tattoos. Crazy question maybe, but if any tattoo artist knows the term, let me know please. Thanks!
