Just thought I'd change it up a little in here and ask everyone what kind of unique unwritten rules you might have. Here are a few of mine.
1. I won't tattoo your dick, I don't even want to see the thing.
2. You will not get a discount just because you want to enter a show.
3. I will not tattoo your feet, hands or face. Its a matter of ethics really.
I do have a sign that reads "If you don't like my rules, feel free to travel back the 150+ miles that brought you here and find someone else to do your work."
Alright, who else then?
The unwritten rules

I get not tattooing hands or faces but could you please explain the ethics of not tattooing the feet? Just out of curiosity, I have never heard another artist not willing to tattoo feet.
Would you disagree that stuffing a sock over fresh ink and working up a sweat while walking around during someone's routine 9to5 is unsanitary?
We tattoo feet, hands, and necks pretty often and dont think we are doing anything unethical. Ironically, we do have written rules that say we dont, cause if some kid wants something stupid we will show them the "rules", but we try not to dictate what the client can or cant do with their body. We have a client who wants his whole face done, hey, its his face...
Our unwritten rule is, if you ask for something stupid, expect to get a very sarcastic, yet professional, responce. "You cant ask for an unique tattoo then ask for a star! Well, you get what you want. Would you like a pretty star with colors or just a plain old black star? Really? Plain ol black? Well, then you cann't call it original, cause thats the most played out tattoo there is, but we would love to do it. We do also have a laser guy coming through, so if your ever in need of some lasering..."
I agree that a sock over a fresh tattoo is unsanitary however we do quite a few foot tattoos in the shop I work at especially in the summer. We take the time to educate our customers about proper healing of this tattoo and I have yet to have one I have one come back for any touchups. I do charge extra for these tattoos as there is a higher risk of touchups and we guarantee our work and I explain that to my clients. I don't find this as a question of ethics but proper education of the client.
dumb thread, walt.
