This was my first introduction to the figure. I had drawn the cylinder from another class and then drew the figure on top of it trying to use my paper up for a quick sketch. Years later when I struggled to understand why a half sleeve of rigid architecture would not make for a good tattoo design, Guy Aitchison replied "it wont work because the body is not a cylinder, the body is an organic shape."
Ironically, the lesson and the answer is in this sketch and all the others that I have done since. Fluid flowing shapes that work with the contour and lines of the body are the most flattering and pleasing to the eye, subject matter is second to that.
