I have a tendency to paint on the back side of the canvas. I like the depth and frame the stretcher bars lend to the piece. The border is painted in black acrylic paint and the lettering is painted in titanium white. The figure and its background are in oil paint. This painting was brought about after many conversations with the shop apprentice and how people keep themselves down and closed off from opportunities allowed them by their own negative thought patterns. It's been my first oil painting since I graduated Mason Gross School of the Arts (Rutgers University) in 1998. It was completed at the Paradise Gathering Artist Retreat this past fall (2010).
