Least Painful Areas to Get a Tattoo

Submitted 06.08.16

Let’s first start by saying that everyone has a different tolerance to pain. Certain areas may be extremely painful for some while not painful at all for others. With that being said, if you’re looking to get a tattoo, but don’t want it to hurt, Cap1 Tattoos in Denton, Texas is going to tell you the least painful areas to get a tattoo.

Shoulder

Technically it’s the shoulder blade, but the shoulder muscles help to give a bit of cushioning for the needle. It’s also an ideal place for your first tattoo because it allows you to get a fairly large tattoo that can be easily hidden.

Thigh

Along the same lines as your shoulder, the thigh is a very easy place to get a large tattoo that you want or need to keep hidden. The thigh is also a good place to get your first tattoo because you can easily keep an eye on it as it heals.

Forearm

Tattoos on the forearm aren’t very painful unless you go all the way up to the elbow ditch. They’re also good because you can easily avoid sleeping on top of them, which as Cap1 Tattoos has stated in the past, is really bad for your tattoo.

Calf

Since your calves have a lot of muscle and meat, they can easily take the force of the tattoo machine and don’t require you to be in an uncomfortable position while the tattoo is being done.

Wrist

Growing in popularity in recent years, wrist tattoos are perfect for someone who wants a small tattoo as their first. The wrist can be slightly more painful, but overall it’s fairly painless as long as you avoid getting too close to the bones on either side of your wrist.

Generally speaking, areas that are more “meaty” are less painful to tattoo, whereas bonier places such as your ribs, spine, feet and hands can be very painful. Take your specific pain tolerance into consideration when getting a tattoo. Don’t be afraid to let your artist know when or if the pain gets to be too high and you can easily take a break.
