The koi does not become the dragon by accident. It earns it. Every current pushed against. Every obstacle swum through. The Japanese believed the koi that reached the top of the waterfall was transformed into a dragon. Not given power. Recognized for the power it already proved it had. The cherry blossoms mark the moment. Beautiful and brief. A reminder that transformation happens in a specific window and then the window closes. The water is the same force that tested the koi and the same force the dragon now commands. This is not a tattoo about becoming something different.
