THERE ARE TWO PATHS TO A JAPANESE BODYSUIT

THERE ARE TWO PATHS TO A JAPANESE BODYSUIT. And neither starts in Bali, under anaesthetic, getting your entire body tattooed in a few days. The first path is the one I see most often. A client comes in wanting a Japanese sleeve. That’s it. Nothing more. A few years later, they want the other arm doing. Then maybe a backpiece. Before they know it, we’re discussing legs, chest panels and how to bring everything together. What started as one sleeve has evolved into a complete Japanese bodysuit. There was never a grand plan to begin with. It developed naturally over time. Then there’s the second path. The unicorns. The rare individuals who walk through the door knowing exactly what they want. A complete Japanese bodysuit. Not a sleeve. Not a backpiece. The entire body, designed as one continuous composition from the very beginning. These are incredibly special projects. Every subject, every background, every transition is considered as part of something much bigger. I’m fortunate enough to be working on both projects. Neither path is better than the other. Both require patience, commitment, trust and years of dedication. Because traditional Japanese tattooing isn’t about how quickly you can cover skin. It’s about creating something that works with the body, flows naturally and stands the test of time. A proper Japanese bodysuit isn’t a race to the finish line.
