After I graduated with my BFA, I was living week to week

After I graduated with my BFA, I was living week to week. Getting needles out of customs used all my money, so I couldn’t eat until I did another tattoo two days later.
I had the calling for portraits, but what people were asking for didn’t match that, and the bills still had to be paid. So I took the work that came in and built toward portraits on the side with drawing practice and tattoos on friends and family. Nobody turns down a free tattoo.
That’s what this stage looks like. You say yes more, and you steer what you say yes to.
People always say sometimes you just have to pay the bills and take what you don’t want to do. That’s true, but not forever. How you set up your calendar and how you negotiate keep you from getting stuck there.
What are you saying yes to right now that’s building toward your dream pieces? 👇
This is part of a series on picking one goal at a time. If you missed the first post, it’s on my page.
