I knew I wanted to do portraits from the start

I knew I wanted to do portraits from the start. But I didn't start with dream work. I said yes to what paid the bills and did my dream portraits on paper and free work on the side. Here's how I teach it.

Goal. What do you need right now? Paying the bills, getting more clients, doing specific tattoos or having people travel to you. It's not always all of them, and where you are now decides which one comes first.

Calendar. If the bills aren't covered, say yes more and steer what you say yes to. Once the bills are paid and you're booked about three months out, that's when the balance shifts from heavier on money-only pieces to heavier on dream pieces.

Price. Pricing is just as much a boundary as it is a strategy. There's no ceiling on what you can charge, and letting go of the idea that there is one comes first. After that, it's about pacing. How long you hold a rate and when you move it depends on the other levers you're pulling, like how many dream pieces and money-only pieces you're taking. That's where it gets conditional and where you have to see 20 steps ahead.

Comment or DM COACH and I'll get you on a Candid Call to walk through your own pricing and calendar.
