It's not your fault. Promotion is all social media now, so the image you put out there shapes who finds you.

Pricing works differently too. When there were fewer of us, you had room to be broad. Now your price depends on how clearly you show what you do. Even the numbers moved. $150 an hour now is about what $100 an hour was back in 2009.

There are also way more tattooers than there used to be, and a lot of artists are learning online instead of only through apprenticeships.

None of that means you did something wrong. It means the rules changed, and nobody handed you the new ones.
