‘Christ of Saint John of the Cross’ is a painting by Salvador Dalí made in 1951 and it was the main inspiration for this piece. I wanted to steer clear of the somber ‘bloke nailed to a tree bleeding’ type of religious image in favour of something more iconic and I don’t think Salvador would mind me borrowing his idea.
